2016 Reflections and 2017 Resolutions: The Partner Perspective
The past year has been an exciting one for the Splunk partner ecosystem, and in 2017 we have even more in store. So, let’s get started with looking back at 2016.
Throughout the past year, we’ve focused on maturing our partner ecosystem by enhancing our Partner+ Program, which included launching our Technology Alliance Partner Program (TAP) and much more. Each component of our partner business – programs, operations, marketing and sales – is honing in on their offerings to benefit partners of all types. With a focus on our partners’ end-to-end experience coupled with innovative technology to enhance our program, our ecosystem will be unstoppable in 2017!

The New and Improved Splunk App for AWS 5.0
Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to talk to so many customers using Splunk to manage their AWS environment. I have always heard the same thing- give us more! I was at AWS re:Invent 2013, when we launched the first version of the Splunk app for AWS, and I was impressed with the excitement around the dashboards and insights we offered for AWS CloudTrail. Since then we have expanded to fourteen source types (AWS CloudTrail, ELB Accesslogs, S3 Accesslogs, Cloudfront, Billing, Cloudwatch, Cloudwatch logs, VPC Flowlogs, Inspector, Config, Config Rules, Description & Config Notifications) and three inputs to collect data (S3, SQS & Kinesis). In that same time, we have also grown from a few …

Countdown to AWS re:Invent — Looking for Real-time AWS Cost Management?
Learn all about Splunk at AWS re:Invent 2016.
The conclusion of .conf2016 means one thing for the cloud team here at Splunk – time to prepare for AWS re:Invent. We’re just a month away, so let me welcome you to the first post of a re:Invent preview series about how AWS agility + Splunk visibility = customer success.
This week’s topic is a throwback to my presentation last year with Gary Mikula and Siddhartha Dadana of FINRA – talking about end-to-end visibility in a large-scale AWS environment – particularly with regard to cost management.
If you use AWS, you know the challenges with managing cost. Your developers spin up instances and forget to spin them down. You leverage on-demand instances …
Configuring Microsoft’s Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) Single Sign On (SSO) with Splunk Cloud
I’ve put together a couple of blog postings now on SAML configurations for Splunk> Cloud. One for Okta , one for Azure. ADFS is definitely a bit more involved than those other two Identity Providers (IdP), and can be a bit more tricky depending on your implementation, but with this following guide, you should be well on your way to integrating ADFS to your Splunk> Cloud instance!

Adding a Deployment Server / Forwarder Management to a new or existing Splunk Cloud (or Splunk Enterprise) Deployment
As part of the Cloud Adoption team, I am working with Splunk Cloud (and Splunk Enterprise) customers on a daily basis and I get asked questions quite frequently about how to optimize, and effectively reduce, administration overhead. This becomes especially relevant when I am talking with new or relatively new customers that are expanding from a handful of forwarders, into the 100’s or 1000’s of forwarders. And I always say…. start with a Deployment Server.
For larger customers that have trained and experienced Splunk Administrators, or have engaged with Professional Services, this is a given and typically already exists in their deployments.

Splunk is excited to share with you a new interactive, sub 4-minute video, in which Splunk’s Senior Vice President of Security Markets, Haiyan Song, takes you on a journey to discover how cloud-based SIEM services can cut costs, help security teams reduce remediation cycle times, and demonstrate regulatory compliance, without the hassle of setting up and managing complex hardware.
Within this interactive video, you can access additional customer videos, peruse white papers, listen to a webinar and much more!
Zillow Finds Its Way Home With Splunk
With prices on the rise and more younger people than ever moving back home, jumping into the real estate market might seem like a daunting proposition. I’m speaking from first-hand experience here because my daughter has recently moved back in with me as she saves up to purchase her first home. She’s having to navigate the complex issues we’ve all had to deal with at some point, such as finding an agent, figuring out the true value of a home, calculating a mortgage payment or connecting with a lender. That’s where Zillow comes in. Zillow Group is the leading online real estate marketplace dedicated to empowering consumers with data-driven insights across the full lifecycle of owning and living in a …
