SplunkLive! 2016: South Bay Edition

IMG_20161110_092510598Over 600 Splunk enthusiasts gathered last month at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara for the 2nd annual SplunkLive! Santa Clara. Splunk experts, including customers, got to show off some cool, new content that fed the appetites of both Splunk n00bs and veterans.

Highlights included:

  • Opening keynote from Monzy Merza, Head of Security Research, who talked about how the Enterprise Machine Data Fabric (EMDF) is enabled by the Splunk platform, solutions and an open ecosystem. A data fabric, understands where data sits, understands data flows and provides the analytics and visualizations to help technologists make sense of data at any scale.

Some “Swede” use cases from SplunkLive Stockholm 2016

I have a fondness for Stockholm. I lived there for three months and asked my wife to marry me there (luckily she said yes or this blog post would start a lot less happy). I love going to all the cities in EMEA where we run SplunkLives but Stockholm is always one of my favourites.

Stockholm

At last year’s SplunkLive Stockholm we were lucky enough to have IKEA talking about why they replaced their SIEM with Splunk, Klarna talking about using Splunk in their SOC and Statnett talking about IT Troubleshooting and IT Service Management.

This year we had an equally strong line up of customers with some really “Swede” speakers (sorry), covering a variety of Splunk use cases in a …

Bullseye! Arrow on target with Splunk award and ambitious plans for 2016 and beyond

BullseyeEarlier this year, Splunk had its Global Partner Summit in Las Vegas. We had hundreds of partners attend the three day event that was integrated with Splunk’s SKO. Arrow won the “Worldwide Distribution Partner of the Year” award and Arrow Sweden won the equivalent EMEA award.

The relationship with Arrow has gone from strength to strength and is a core part of Splunk’s business in EMEA. In our last EMEA partner spotlight we recently showcased the customer success that our partner Moviri have had in Italy and in this blog post we wanted to highlight the great work between Splunk and Arrow in EMEA.

Arrow work with a large number of technology providers and the relationship with Splunk …

Vote using Splunk

Someone recently challenged me to use Splunk for voting. Splunk is a versatile platform, why not make a voting app? Sigi and Stephen put the app together one afternoon and then I tested it out on a live audience during SplunkLive! San Francisco.

It worked like a charm and we gained insight from the audience. That’s when I realized, although it’s not a typical use case of Splunk, this app could be useful for others. From polling an audience during a presentation or even getting consensus from coworkers on a question during a meeting, maybe I should put the app on splunkbase.

SplunkLive! London Calling – Shazam, John Lewis and the NHS. Should I stay or should I go?

SL_London_Blog_Banner

As with most of my blog posts, apologies for the title. It isn’t often you can combine big data and The Clash. It doesn’t seem long since last year’s event but SplunkLive! London is here again. We’ve got an outstanding line up of customers with Shazam, John Lewis and HSCIC (the IT provider for the NHS) talking about how they use machine data for IT operations, cybersecurity and real-time business analytics. You can see the full line up and register at http://live.splunk.com/london

A platform is only as good as its ecosystem and we have our most innovative, extensive set of sponsors ever with Cisco, AWS, EMC, SyncSort, Nimble Storage, Qualys, Recorded Future, Sbox, Alpha Insight, ECS, Eview, Phoenix, Somerford all demonstrating their part in the big data and Operational Intelligence landscape.

Not only …

SplunkLive Stockholm 2015. IKEA, Statnett and Klarna

A couple of weeks ago, I was in one my favourite cities for SplunkLive Stockholm. We had a couple of hundred people in one of the most impressive rooms we’ve ever had a SplunkLive in. It felt more like the setting of Romeo and Juliet (as far as I know, there weren’t any declarations of undying love – not even for machine data).

Stockholm2

This year we were very happy to have Statnett, Klarna and IKEA presenting on how they use Splunk.

Statnett

Statnett own, build and maintain the Norwegian power grid and “make sure the lights are on in Norway”. We had Linus from Statnett talking about how they “monitor all the things” using Splunk and how this feeds into their …
