David Carasso, Splunk's Chief Mind, was one of the first employees at Splunk. He's been responsible for innovating and prototyping a class of hard problems at the core of Splunk, including developing the Splunk search language, dynamic tagging of events and sources, discovering transactions, as well as mining the data that Splunk operates over.
